Ms. Havadi weaves these baskets from the long leaves of an old maize variety. Just like a shoemaker pulls a shoe on the shoemaker’s last, Ms. Havadi’s basket is created around a wooden mold. The elongated corn baskets are about 8.5 cm high, 13.5 cm wide and 25 cm long.
Use and disposal:
The corn baskets are very resilient and can be cleaned with lukewarm water. Then they should be briefly placed in the sun because the UV bleaches the corn leaves again as if by magic. At the end of its life, the corn basket can be composted or burned.
